Bangladesh Association for Social Advancement (BASA) is a non-governmental organization devoted to promote the socio-economic conditions of the poorer section of the community in Bangladesh since its inception in 1991. BASA works in diversified fields of sustainable development. Major focus area of works are Microfinance, Water and sanitation, Renewable energy, Carbon Reduction and Generation of Green Energy, Climate change and environment, Bi-product recycling, Waste management, Education, Promotion of local honey, Capacity building for disadvantaged communities through IGA training, Empowerment of poor, especially women through the provision of diversified microfinance products. After years of dedicated development actions, the programmes are now expanded more than twenty districts of the country. The program area of BASA is expanding day by day due to its innovative and exploring potentialities in new dimensions of development as well as capability to smoothly run the projects .The year 2011 brought new opportunities for BASA to work in a wider areas of development sector, especially for urban development. ,BASA started its work in two Mega city corporations of Dhaka and Chittagong. Simultaneously it expanded its area of work in two other most climate victim districts of Bangladesh named Bagerhat and Satkhira under the support of an International alliance named BWA funded by Dutch Government. It also opens the door of BASA to work in three other coastal districts of Bangladesh as its project area.
It is estimated that more than 75000 beneficiaries of BASA is now getting benefits from different development program. BASA maintains it's Head Office in Dhaka while fifty five (55) local offices are spread across the Upazillas of working areas. Five hundred and fifty (550) dedicated and committed staff is currently working in the Head and Branch offices.
BASA is governed by Executive Committee that is elected by a General Council of twenty five members. The Executive Committee is comprised of reputed NGO leaders, Academicians, Experts of different sector who bring with them many years of professionals experiences. The board meets every quarter to provide strategic decisions and policy supports in the operation of BASA. A separate Advisory Council composed of individuals having varied backgrounds provides expert Advisory support to the organization as and when needed.
Since the beginning of its operations, BASA has established links with various government agencies and international partners such as CIDA, ADB,UNDP, DFID,BWA, Department of environment, PKSF, APS- Italy, Practical Action, ITDG, Water Aid, WSP-World Bank, WASTE The Netherlands and SUSANA, GTZ, SWEDEN and NGO Forum, VSO, DAP- Australian High Commission, European Commission and World Bank. BASA also has a number of Government- NGO projects. Through the years, BASA has maintained an excellent track record with the donor community, enabling it to access resources for its future development projects.
From Last Six year's BASA emphasizes on environment related projects, which are directly linked to climate change issues. solid waste management, ecological sanitation, improved cook stove, carbon reduction Bio-gas plant etc.
